Food Assistance

The Market is proud to accept several of the Food Assistance Programs available throughout our community. We believe that everyone should have access to fresh local food.

To use your food assistance benefits, stop by our welcome desk located in the brick building with garage doors on Fulton St. We will be happy to show you how the programs work at the Market.

Our Payment Methods page goes into greater detail on how to use your food assistance $ to buy products. We’ve also detailed out a few of the programs below.

SNAP/Double Up Food Bucks

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly the Food Stamp Program, is the nation’s largest nutritional assistance program. SNAP benefits can be used to purchase any approved food item for human consumption and seeds and plants that produce food. Clients receive their benefits via an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) system that works like a debit card to transfer their benefits to the food retailer. In Michigan, the EBT card has a picture of the Mackinac Bridge on it and is called the SNAP Bridge Card.

Learn more about the SNAP Program and how to sign up on the Michigan Department of Health + Human Services site.

WIC Project Fresh

WIC Project Fresh is a program run through the Michigan WIC department that offers $5 Coupons to WIC clients to purchase additional Fruits and Vegetables above their normal benefits.  You can find out more about the program on there website. Unfortunately the Market is not currently able to accept WIC Cash benefits

Senior Market Fresh

A program for Seniors to gain access to additional Fruits and Vegetables.  This program is hosted through the Senior Meals on Wheels program here in Kent County (Grandville Office).  These benefits come in form of $2 coupons. You can find out more about the program on their website.

Unfortunately we are currently unable to accept the Summer EBT for Children, WIC Cash Benefits, or any program designated for specific locations other than the Fulton Street Farmers Market
